Your Questions, Answered

WHAT IS YOUR TRAINING METHOD?

At Katie's Clever Canines, we believe that training should be fun for everyone involved! We use science based, fear free methods that will help strengthen the bond you have with your dog. We know that training doesn't have to be painful, scary or intimating to be effective - even for the toughest cases.

DO YOU USE A CLICKER?

Yes! We love clicker training. A clicker is a great way to tell your dog that what they are doing is what earned them a reward. It a quick, clear and consistent way to train. We use clickers for most of our services.

DO YOU USE ANY TRAINING TOOLS SUCH AS AN ELECTRIC COLLAR OR PRONG COLLAR?

While we realize these tools can be effective to get a desired behavior, they come with a cost. Studies have shown that these tools are effective because of the pain or discomfort they induce on an animal. We at Katie's Clever Canines, believe that we should be focusing on giving our dogs direction and guiding them to make the right decisions rather than consistently punishing them for making the wrong decisions. When it comes to using aversive training collars with a dog who has behavioral issues, it is important that we focus on treating the underlying stress and anxiety of the animals rather than punishing the stress response they are displaying. We are happy to help transition dogs off these tools and teach owners healthier ways to train, just check out our Trade Program

WHAT DO YOUR CONSULTATIONS INCLUDE?

A consultation visit is an opportunity to get to know each other and helps our trainers understand your pets needs. We start the consultation out with us sitting down and talking about the behaviors you need help with and what our training plan will look like. Any time we have after that initial conversation, we use to train! The private training consultation also includes a written training plan for your pet that we email to you after the visit.
